Chronic fatigue syndrome

Overview
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complicated disorder characterized by extreme fatigue. Patients with chronic fatigue syndrome may also has brain fog, cloudy mind and mild but persistent heavy eyes. Chronic fatigue syndrome may happen after infections. Investigations for patients with chronic fatigue may not show any abnormality. Patients often have normal haemoglobin, thyroid function and iron level. Chronic fatigue syndrome may last from months to years.
 
Treatment options
There are no specific treatments available for chronic fatigue syndrome. Exercise, counselling and neuostimulant can improve the symptoms.
 
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is specifically targeted on the improvement of brain blood supply. With better blood supply to the brain, patient often experience immediate improvement of energy level, brain fog and cloudy mind.
 
Treatment objects and protocol
The aim is to significantly relieve the fatigue and associated symptoms. The initial course is 4-6 weekly treatments. Most patients may need tuning-up treatments every 4 to 6 weeks.
 
Safety
Acupuncture is a well-tolerated safe treatment. Short lasting localised pain is the most common side effect.
